"Serene setting in which to experience the Malay culture" |
| |
From the moment you are welcomed into the the imposing reception area at Tanjong Jara you realise that you are in luxurious surroundings. Tanjong Jara's 17th century traditional Malay architectural style won the coveted Aga Khan Award for Architecture when it was refurbished. The design of this Resort is derived from the elegantly crafted wooden palaces of Malay sultans from long ago and involved extensive research into traditional forms of craftsmanship, mainly from the East Coast of Malaysia.
The resort features 100 luxurious rooms, a spa and two swimming pools.
The Malay culture and heritage are clearly present in every aspect of this Resort, from the way the rooms and suites are designed, the elaborate details in the woodwork, to the Gamelan music played every evening. Tanjong Jara Resort promises you an experience that is "Unmistakably Malay".

Dining
Dining at Tanjong Jara Resort is at once scenic, informal and exquisite. Whether over the river or facing the sea, traditional Malay, authentic Chinese and international cuisine is served at its most innovative and exotic at the three food and beverage outlets.
Di Atas Sungei "Di Atas Sungei" is Malay for "Above The River" so guests will find it easy to spot this restaurant which literally sits above a river that flows into the South China Sea. Surrounded by lush tropical greenery and shaded by a huge Ketapang tree, the restaurant opens for breakfast and dinner, and serves authentic Malaysian cuisine.
Teratai Terrace The Teratai Terrace is situated adjacent to the free-form pool. Light meals and refreshments are served through the day. Ideal for pre-dinner or after-dinner drinks to the soothing sound of the Gamelan music and a cool breeze from the sea.
The Nelayan "Nelayan" is Malay for "Fisherman", and seafood is indeed the speciality of this outlet, with its relaxed and informal atmosphere. Situated by the sea, a variety of local and Western light meals are served for lunch. The Resort's own fishermen bring in the catch of the day for dinner. When the weather permits, a delightful alfresco dining experience is featured on the beach amidst a bonfire, bamboo torches and the gentle sound of the waves.
